Earlier this week, the Tiger-Cats Official Facebook page asked fans to submit their questions for quarterback Henry Burris. Henry answered a handful of those questions below…
How do you feel about the trade to Hamilton? (From Connor C.)
I’m excited about it. Number one, because you get a fresh, new beginning with a team that has the talent level to reach every height as far as in this league as far as winning a champonship and doing good things. I think with everything happening in Calgary, it was time to make a move and what better place to come than Hamilton.
What are the keys to a successful team? and do you think the ticats have that this year? (From Corey G.)
We definitely have those ingredients. We have young talent and the guys here are hungry, especially the guys who were here last year who were one step away from being in the Grey Cup. We also have the veteran leadership and the acquisitions that took place in the offseason to give this team a lot more experience – talented experience – on top of that.
Which player has excited you the most to be playing with this season either on offense or defense? (From Michael G.)
Well, I’ll tell you, Chevon Walker has been the guy, the unheard of guy who I didnt know anything about coming in that stepped up and caught a lot of eyes. He is only going to get better with age and experience, he is a guy that you’re going to have to watch out for. With him and Avon Cobourne in the backfield, they’re going to be able to balance the offence out and keep that double threat as far as run and pass.
What are your thoughts on being a part of the last season at Ivor Wynne? (from Rob I.)
It’s very exciting because the tradition and the history and just how much this stadium has meant to the entire league. For me, being in this league for the number of years that I have been you always got to pay tribute to some of the landmarks that have been so significant over the many years that they have been standing. People have come to this facility here and enjoyed great football games and of course the number one way to close it out is doing the number one thing and be successful each and everytime we play on this field.
You did a lot of running in the two preseason games, do you expect this to be the norm for all 18 games? (From Donna H.)
In the first game I really didn’t do a lot of running at all but in the second game I wanted to incorporate that because the defence that we were playing against gave me the opportunity to. It’s all about taking what the defense gives you and being smart but also taking the time to know your players. Again, the thing is you can never tell what is going to happen. It’s all predicated on what the defence does as far as how I play. The number one thing I want to do is make sure I am excecuting within the offence.
How or what do you do to mentally prepare yourself for games? (From John H.)
A lot of times I dont even think about the game. The way it is before the game, usually within 48 hours, I make sure I know the playbook inside out and know what the defenses are going to run and have a good idea everytime we step up what to expect from their defence. They may throw some wrinkles at us that we haven’t prepared for because it is the first regualr season game. I just like to get away and spend time with my family and not really think so much about the game, but when it comes up to that five hour period before the game, I’m really zoned in getting ready to go.
What do you most commonly eat for breakfast? (From Vic W.)
I’m a big pancake and waffle guy. You know, some good turkey bacon, good beef bacon, some over easy eggs or scrambled eggs and cheese… some oatmeal and eggs… stuff like that, with a good protein shake and OJ.
Fans on Facebook will have the chance to direct questions to a new player every week. Make sure you ‘like’ the Ticats on Facebook to submit your question!
