Draft Profile: Kyle Quinlan

TORONTO — McMaster quarterback Kyle Quinlan will always remember the night of Nov. 25, 2011.

That night, Quinlan and the rest of his Marauders teammates, pulled off one of the most resounding victories in Canadian football history, defeating the Laval Rouge et Or in double overtime to win the 47th Vanier Cup.

“It was surreal, it still hasn’t fully sunk in,” said Quinlan at CFL Evaluation Camp presented by Reebok in March.

“The whole end of that season just kept going on and it was a great moment.”

Quinlan’s performance in the Vanier – a stellar 36 completion, 484 yards, two touchdowns outing – capped off an equally solid 2011 campaign.

In just five games, the South Woodslee, Ont. native completed 99 of his 153 passes for 1,708 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Despite the success he’s enjoyed throughout his collegiate career, however, Quinlan knows that to make it as a QB in the CFL, there is plenty more work to be done.

“I take pride in being a student of the game, so I’m going to continue to try and get better every single practice and every single game,” he said.

Quinlan was one of three pivots invited to E-Camp, alongside Hec Crighton winner Billy Greene out of UBC and Acadia’s Kyle Graves.

Performing in front of the watchful eyes of CFL scouts and coaches alike, the 23-year old admitted that his test results weren’t quite up to par, but hopes scouts were impressed with his on-field play.

“I hope they see someone that throws the ball around a little bit, someone that sees the field. I think the interviews (with teams) went well so I hope that’s a big part of the assessment as well.”
