Coach Cortez To Present At 2012 FCCA

Hamilton Tiger-Cats Head Coach George Cortez will present on “quarterback development” at the 2012 Football Canada Coaches Association Convention at Corpus Christi Secondary School in Burlington, Ontario.  The FCCA convention takes place on March 24 and 25.

The FCCA Convention is a coaching development opportunity which features presentations from some of the premier minor, junior, Canadian and American university, as well as the Canadian Football League and National Football League coaches.

A longtime quarterback coach and offensive coordinator who has had success in the CFL, NFL and NCAA, Cortez will draw on his experience to help coaches develop Canadian quarterbacks. Cortez was named the Ticats head coach and director of football operations on January 7.

Over the course of his career, Cortez has played a role in the development of quarterbacks like Henry Burris, Jeff Garcia, Dave Dickenson, Aaron Rodgers, Kyle Boller and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

“I enjoyed my time with Coach Cortez. … In the quarterback room, we went through every scenario, situation, and play, so you went into the game feeling real confident about what you were going to see, the checks you would need to make and the reads you would need to make if you saw different looks. I always appreciated his attention to detail,” said Aaron Rogers.

Under Cortez’s direction, Burris led the Stamps to a Grey Cup championship in 2008 after throwing for 5,094 yards and 39 touchdowns during the regular season.

“He’s the most significant force in my development as a player, he’s an incredible teacher of the game,” said Henry Burris in a Ticats media release.
