After two highly successful years, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, along with Hamilton Partners in Nutrition, CBM Chartered Accountants, Hamilton Orthotic Centre and Stoney Creek Orthotic Centre proudly launched the BeFit program for its third year this morning when they visited St. Luke Anglican Hall.
On hand were four Ticats players and 60 excited students, eager to hear what their heroes had to say.
“I’ve been a part of the program every year so far, and it’s always amazing to see how enthusiastic and receptive the kids are to our message,” said Ticats offensive lineman Peter Dyakowski.
The Ticats BeFit program helps educate children in the Hamilton area about the importance of a physically active and healthy lifestyle. At each BeFit appearance, Tiger-Cats players deliver a healthy breakfast or snack and speak about the benefits of exercising and maintaining a healthy diet.
“With so many ways for young people to entertain themselves these days, that don’t necessarily get them active and out of the house, it’s important for us to remind them that there a ton of ways to get exercise and still have a great time,” said defensive back Jonathan Hood.
St. Luke’s was the first stop of the 2012 campaign, but it will be far from the last.
After reaching over 70 schools and over 20,000 students in its first two years, the program will add another 40 schools and 10,000 students to that list this season.
