JOHNSON, THIGPEN EARN PLAYER OF THE WEEK NODS

Hamilton, Ontario – A pair of Hamilton Tiger-Cats have been acknowledged for their roles in the team’s 52-44 Eastern Semi-Final win in Montreal last Sunday as linebacker Jamall Johnson has been named the CFL’s Defensive Player of the Week and receiver/kick returner Marcus Thigpen has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Johnson did it all on Sunday, making six defensive tackles, one quarterback sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and an interception that he returned 75 yards to set up a Ticats touchdown.  Johnson was named an East Division All-Star last week after registering 77 tackles and six quarterback sacks in 2011.

Thigpen consistently provided the Black and Gold with great field position against the Alouettes, running back seven kickoffs for 171 yards (24.4 average), including returns of 40 and 33 yards in the fourth quarter.

The Tiger-Cats will face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Eastern Final at Canad Inns Stadium on Sunday, November 20 at 1pm EST.
