Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are sad to announce the passing of a Tiger-Cat and CFL legend. Former Ticat great, Tommy Grant passed away this morning in a London hospital at the age of 76.
“A Hall of Fame player on the field and a real gentleman off of it, our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the entire Grant family on behalf of the Tiger-Cats organization”, said team President Scott Mitchell.
“We all cherished our time with Tommy last year as he was inducted into the Tiger-Cats Wall of Honour and will treasure the memories of watching him enjoy that special night with his family.”
“We will miss seeing Tommy at Ivor Wynne stadium and have little doubt his legacy as a Wall of Honour Member and that of four-time Grey Cup Champion and nine-time Grey Cup participant will be remembered and admired for decades to come,” he added.
“Our league joins the Tiger-Cats in mourning the loss of Tommy Grant, while celebrating his life and tremendous football career and our thoughts are with him family and many friends,” said Mark Cohon, Commissioner of the CFL.
Grant was inducted onto the Tiger-Cats Wall of Honour in a ceremony last season, and into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1995.
Grant spent 13 seasons with Hamilton from 1956-1968. He was named the Eastern Conference Canadian Rookie of The Year in 1956 and the league’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 1964. Grant played in a record nine Grey Cups with the Tiger-Cats, winning four.
