OTTAWA — To no one’s surprise, the Laval Rouge et Or (2-0) stay on top of the FRC-CIS Football Top 10 Poll for the third consecutive week after a 24-14 win over Montreal (1-1) in front of 16,046 in Quebec City.

Despite the loss, the Carabins remain at no. 6.

For the first time this season however, the reigning Vanier Cup champion Rouge et Or didn’t gain a unanimous vote for first-place as two nods went to the second-ranked Western Mustangs (2-0) after their 48-21 thrashing of McMaster in Hamilton in front of 5,563 at Ron Joyce Stadium.

McMaster (1-1) paid the price for its home opening loss, slipping four spots in the poll to No. 7.

The two remaining undefeated teams in the Canada West Conference both moved up one spot after improving to 2-0 in league play.

The no. 3 Calgary Dinos marched on their final drive for a 30-25 comeback victory over UBC. The Thunderbirds (1-1), who entered the contest at No. 10, fell out of the Top 10 as a result.

Meanwhile in Saskatchewan, the No. 4 Huskies celebrated their 100th anniversary in style, setting a regular season attendance record of 7,370. The over-capacity crowd went home happy as the Huskies won the battle of Saskatchewan 33-10 over the Regina Rams (0-2).

Rounding out this week’s top five are the Sherbrooke Vert & Or (2-0), who continued their steady move up the charts thanks to a 39-13 win over McGill (0-2) at Percival Molson Stadium. The “Foxes”, who reached the Quebec final for the first time in team history in 2010, were ranked seventh last Tuesday.

The top-ranked team in the AUS, the Saint Mary’s Huskies (1-0), moved up one spot to eighth after opening league play with a convincing 54-14 win over Mount Allison.

The two new arrivals to the Top 10 take up the final two spots. Voters could not ignore the Ottawa Gee Gees’ 2-0 record, while the Windsor Lancers (2-0) were rewarded for their stunning 41-40 upset over Laurier, which was decided on an exciting ‘Canadian-stly’ last-second Rouge.
