On Labour Day, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats turned in an excellent performance on the field en route to a 44-21 drubbing of the Montreal Alouettes.

Off of the field, their fans turned in an impressive performance of their own.

The Purolator Tackle Hunger program returned to Ivor Wynne Stadium for the ninth time on Monday, and fans helped establish a new Hamilton record by donating 86,400 pounds of food to Hamilton Food Share via non-perishable items and cash donations.

The 86,400-pound total smashed last year’s total of 50,466 pounds (a 68% increase!) and stands as the third-highest total in the nine-year history of the Purolater Tackle Hunger program.

“I think TigerTown and people who live in Hamilton are very conscious of what’s going on in their community and I think (on) Labour Day (it) has become a tradition to bring your donation,” Purolator’s manager of corporate sponsorship, Brian Collins, told the Hamilton Spectator on Monday.

Thank you for your generosity, TigerTown!
