LONDON, Ont. — This homegrown quarterback enters the 2011 campaign with a full year of experience as a starting quarterback under his belt.
In his fourth season as a Mustang, Donnie Marshall looks to lead Western back to the Yates Cup and beyond. A natural leader who is just as dangerous with his legs as he is with his arm, has a knack for coming up big when the game is on the line.
In his first season as a starter he led the offense through a so-called transition year seamlessly. He combined his throwing ability with his timely running to win games; he engineered the last-minute drive to set up the game-winning field goal in the Yates Cup, as well as a last minute drive in the Uteck Bowl to get close to scoring range.
In 2010 Marshall was 7-1 as a starter and threw for 1,470 yards and 10 touchdowns in the regular season. He was named the co-winner of the most improved player award for the Western Mustangs.
Marshall will be entering his draft year and with his speed, many CFL teams are eyeing him as a potential slot back.
The expectations are high but this individual thrives under pressure. Watch for him to continue his strong play and leadership throughout the 2011 season.
