The Hamilton Tiger-Cats renew one of the greatest rivalries in sports this Saturday, August 13 when they host the Toronto Argonauts at Ivor Wynne Stadium at 7pm presented by McDonald’s.
The Ticats (3-3) will be looking to distance themselves further from the Argos (1-5) in the first regular season clash between these archrivals this season.
Local Tim Hortons store owners and Ticats quarterback Kevin Glenn have teamed up to welcome 250 kids from Tim Horton Children’s Foundation camps to Saturday’s game. The local store owners and Glenn have purchased tickets for the kids, who will sit in section 6 and meet Glenn after the game. Tim Horton Children’s Foundation camp programs are designed to give children the opportunity to experience many positive personal achievements while at camp.
At halftime, the Ticats will pay tribute to football legend Bernie Custis. 2011 marks the 60th anniversary of Custis becoming the first African American quarterback to start a professional football game. After his nine-year CFL career ended in 1959, Custis embarked on a successful coaching career that spanned three decades at various levels of football, resulting in his induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1998.
Former Ticats Damon Allen, Chuck Ealey, Tony Gabriel and John Williams Jr. will also take part in the tribute.
As part of Protect and Serve Night, various emergency vehicles will be positioned in the end zone while members of Hamilton Emergency Services will be interviewed during the evening.
The gameday experience begins at the TigerTown Fanzone (Brian Timmis Field) at 5:00pm. Fans of all ages are encouraged to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the festivities, which include inflatable games for kids, a cheerleader photo booth, alumni autograph sessions, music, food and more.
The first round of the Rob Hitchcock Beat The Pros Touch Football Tournament will take place on Saturday adjacent to the TigerTown Fanzone. Teams are competing for a chance to face Rob Hitchcock and his team of All-Pros at halftime of the Ticats September 16 game.
