CALGARY — Baylor Bears centre Philip Blake retained top spot in the Canadian Football League’s prospect rankings released Tuesday.
Blake, a six-foot-three, 315-pound junior from Toronto, was moved from right tackle to centre in the off-season and helped the Bears finish 7-5 in the Big 12 this year, including a 30-22 upset win at Texas on Oct. 30.
The top three prospects remain unchanged from the September rankings. Offensive lineman Scott Mitchell of Rice is second and slot-back Anthony Parker of the Calgary Dinos is third.
Mitchell, a six-foot-four, 295-pound senior from Ottawa, had made 38 straight starts for the Owls at left tackle before suffering a season-ending injury Oct. 23 against central Florida.
Parker is the top skill position player on the list and the highest ranked Canadian Interuniversity Sport product. The fourth-year player from Okotoks, Alta., helped the Dinos reach their second straight Vanier Cup. The six-foot-two, 215-pound receiver had 22 catches for 367 yards and two touchdowns in five games during an injury-shortened season.
San Diego Chargers defensive tackle Vaughn Martin and Tulsa offensive lineman Tyler Holmes each moved up four positions in the rankings to fourth and fifth spot respectively.
Martin, who played his university football with the Western Mustangs, was selected in the fourth round of the NFL draft by the Chargers. The six-foot-four, 330-pound product of London, Ont., has six tackles and a sack so far this NFL season.
Holmes, of Ottawa, is a six-foot-four, 305-pound junior with the Hurricane.
Dinos wide receiver Nathan Coehoorn is No. 7 and running back Matt Walter No. 14.
