OTTAWA — Calgary wide receiver Anthony Parker, Laval defensive back Maximilien Ducap Kamara and Western Ontario kick returner Andrew Thibaudeau, are the Canadian Interuniversity Sport football players of the week for the period ending Nov. 6, 2010.
The selection was made by a committee comprised of members of Football Reporters of Canada (FRC).
Parker, a fourth-year open studies student from Okotoks, Alta., was honoured on offence thanks to his three touchdown receptions in a 40-33 Canada West semifinal win over Regina, last Saturday. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior, who racked up 145 yards on five catches and 267 all-purpose yards in the game, scored on a 70-yard pass from two-time CIS MVP Erik Glavic on the first play of the afternoon from scrimmage and added a 20-yard TD in the second quarter and a 45-yard score in the third frame. The No. 5-ranked Dinos (7-2) host Alberta (4-5) in the Hardy Cup final Saturday at 3 p.m. MST, live on Shaw TV.
Acadia receiver Scott Kelly, Laval quarterback Bruno Prud’homme and Ottawa receiver Alex Fortier-Labonté were also up for the award.
Ducap Kamara, a second-year open studies student from L’Islet, Que., took home the weekly honour on defence after he set a Quebec conference playoff record and tied the CIS post-season mark with four interceptions – including one returned for a touchdown – in a 56-1 QUFL semifinal victory over Bishop’s. The 5-foot-8, 153-pound sophomore, who capped off his career afternoon with a 35-yard score in the final minute of the contest, became only the second player in CIS history with four picks in a playoff game after Toronto’s Richard Nakatsu in 1974. The top-ranked Rouge et Or (10-0) host No. 10 Sherbrooke (6-4) in the Dunsmore Cup final Saturday at 12:30 p.m., live on Radio-Canada.
Acadia defensive back Graeme Richardson, Western Ontario linebacker John Surla and Alberta defensive end Craig Gerbrandt were also nominated.
Thibaudeau, a first-year social sciences student from Kitchener, Ont., was the choice on special teams after he tied a school record with a 104-yard touchdown on a kickoff return in a 34-28 OUA semifinal win over McMaster. After the Marauders took a 10-0 lead midway through the opening quarter, the 5-foot-11, 174-pound freshman took the ensuing kickoff to the house to change the momentum of the game. He finished the day with 214 all-purpose yards including 123 on three kickoff returns. The No. 2 Mustangs (8-1) visit No. 4 Ottawa (8-1) in the Yates Cup final Saturday at 1 p.m., live on The Score.
Parker was also a nominee on special teams, along with fellow kick returners Mike Rostance of Acadia and Raphaël Gagné of Sherbrooke.
