On behalf of our Board of Governors, our teams, and our fans across Canada, I want to thank everyone associated with Scotiabank Touchdown Atlantic 2010 for making it such a tremendous success.
We are indebted to the City of Moncton, the province of New Brunswick, and the federal government and in particular the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, as well as Scotiabank and our game and festival partners, for the support that made the event possible.
We are enormously proud of the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos, not only for playing hard on the field, but for contributing to freely to the community, attending events in Moncton and across Atlantic Canada, during the week preceding the game, and even during the months leading up to it.
And we can’t say enough about the army of volunteers who did everything thing that was asked of them, and did it all with a smile, a handshake or, once in a while, even a hug.
But most of all, our gratitude goes to our fans, those who joined us from across Canada, and especially the people of Moncton and the rest of Atlantic Canada, for the warmth and generosity and graciousness with which we were treated every step of the way.
We had a wonderful time, and we know our hosts did, too. (We thought we knew a thing or two about having a good time, after 97 Grey Cups. But we learned a few things about a good party from the Maritimers we met!)
We really look forward to returning to Moncton. And we are working on securing the government and corporate support necessary to make a multi-year commitment to an annual regular season game in Atlantic Canada.
That’s the next logical step towards determining whether we can someday locate a team in Atlantic Canada. As I’ve said along, this has to be a very gradual, sober minded process.
But if you were there, I’m sure you agree with me that it’s now clear: the region loves the CFL, and everyone who had the privilege of representing our league in Moncton, fell in love with Atlantic Canada.
Thank you again. We loved every minute of it.
