TORONTO — The CFL Evaluation Camp presented by Reebok moves to the field at Varsity Centre for individual and group drills, including the always anticipated 40-yard dash on Sunday.
A year ago, Bishop’s University running back Jamall Lee produced a record-setting performance by running a 4.39 40-yard sprint. The previous fastest time on record was 4.41 seconds set in 2004 by Jean-Fredrick Tremblay, a wide receiver from Laval.
On Sunday morning, it will be a former teammate of Lee, receiver Steven Turner, who will be one of the favourites to knock Lee from atop the E-Camp record books.
A receiver and return specialist, Turner led all receivers in every category during testing on Saturday and came just short of breaking an E-Camp record in the vertical leap on Saturday afternoon, also held by Lee.
“I have constantly been told since I started playing that I was too small so I always had to prove myself at every level due to my size,” said Turner prior to arriving at E-Camp. “Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons has inspired me to play professional football. Being a smaller player all his life and overcoming that to become a legend.”
Sunday’s testing will start just after 8 o’clock in the morning with the offensive and defensive linemen running the 40-yard dash and the short shuttle. The running backs and linebackers are expected to run the 40-yard dash around 10:30am followed by the receivers and defensive backs just past noon.
