The fifth-year quarterback threw for 347 yards to become the OUA’s all-time leader in passing yardage as the No. 4-ranked Golden Gaels cruised past the Waterloo Warriors 43-21 in Canadian university football action.
The Burlington, Ont., native increased his career total to 9,989 yards, surpassing McMaster QB Ben Chapdelaine (9,974). Brannagan is now just 466 yards shy of the all-time CIS record of 10,455 set last year by McGill’s Matt Connell.

“Everyone was aware it was going to be close on Saturday. Everyone wanted to help.”
Scott Valberg lent a big hand for Queen’s, with seven receptions for 141 yards and one touchdown. Golden Gaels running back Marty Gordon also had a day to remember, carrying the ball 24 times for a career-best 214 yards and a touchdown.
With the win, Queen’s (6-0) extended its regular-season unbeaten streak to 16 games dating back to the 2007 season. The Golden Gaels finish the regular season with games against the Western Ontario Mustangs (5-1) and the Wilfried Laurier Golden Hawks (4-2).
Hometown favourite Dustin Zender was the star for the Warriors (1-5), hauling in nine passes for 174 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Evan Martin was also solid in defeat, going 23-of-32 for 332 yards and a major.
Waterloo’s touchdown in the final minute of the first half ended a streak of 269 minutes 50 seconds in which Queen’s had not allowed an offensive touchdown.
