OTTAWA – Bishop’s running back Jamall Lee, Simon Fraser linebacker Chris Folk and Laval kicker Christopher Milo are the Canadian Interuniversity Sport football players of the week for the period ending Sept. 20, 2008.

Lee, a fourth-year sociology student from Port Coquitlam, B.C., set Quebec University Football League single-game marks with 391 rushing yards and 35 carries and tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns Friday night in a 45-21 Gaiters win over McGill. The six-foot-one, 225-pound senior, who was named QUFL MVP a year ago after he set a conference season record with 1,464 yards on the ground, shattered the previous Quebec single-game rushing mark by 93 yards and came within four yards of the CIS record set by Calgary’s Chris Lewis against UBC on Oct. 28, 1994.

Saint Mary’s receiver Shawn White, McMaster quarterback Ryan Fantham and Manitoba running back James Gerardy were also up for the offensive award.

Folk, a first-year arts student from Kelowna, B.C., earned the nod on defence after he racked up 7.5 tackles, including a quarterback sack, and returned his own forced fumble for a touchdown as the No. 7-ranked and Canada West-leading Clan (3-1) shut down No. 10 Calgary’s offence in a 20-3 win. The five-foot-10, 215-pound rookie, in only his second start at middle linebacker, scored after a 31-yard scamper with one minute and 36 seconds left in regulation to seal the Clan’s victory.

Mount Allison defensive back Callan Exeter, Laval defensive lineman Étienne Légaré and Ottawa defensive back Lee Shaver were also nominated.

Milo, a second-year industrial relations student in his fourth-year of CIS eligibility, received the special teams award after he set a school record with seven field goals in as many attempts as the No. 1 Rouge et Or (3-0) remained undefeated with a 36-13 win over No. 9 Concordia (2-1). The five-foot-11, 200-pound Montreal native accounted for 24 points in the victory, including field goals from 24, 35, 37, 30, 25, 30 and 49 yards out. He also averaged 44.2 yards on five punts and 59.7 yards on three kickoffs.

Saint Mary’s returner Jahmeek Murray and McMaster cover man Brad Fochesato were also up for the distinction.
