CIS football kicks off new season Friday

OTTAWA (CFL.ca wire) -– The 2007 Canadian Interuniversity Sport season officially gets under way this weekend with the presentation of eight football games beginning on Friday night.

The Canada West and OUA conferences will be in action, while Quebec (Sept. 6) and the AUS (Sept. 8) will kick things off a week from now.

The opening weekend of Canada West football is highlighted by a Friday night tilt between the No. 2-ranked and 2006 Vanier Cup finalist Saskatchewan Huskies and the visiting Alberta Golden Bears.

All five OUA duels are scheduled for Labour Day Monday, with the reigning conference champion, No. 3-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees visiting the Guelph Gryphons, and the No. 8 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks hosting the No. 9 McMaster Marauders in an early season Top Ten clash.
