Eskimos 2007 draft class signed

Kean, Nedd, Jean-Louis and McCarty ready for training camp

EDMONTON (CFL.ca wire) — The Edmonton Eskimos announced on Tuesday the club has signed all four of its draft picks from the 2007 CFL Canadian Draft.

Kicker/Punter Warren Kean was drafted in the first round (second overall). The Dundas, Ontario native played four seasons at Concordia. Last season he made 20 of 32 field goals, his longest was 44 yards. He was also good on 21 of 21 converts. Kean set four Quebec conference records, including field goals in a season (20) and attempts in a season (32). Last October he set a CIS record by connecting on nine field goals in a six-overtime game against the Saint Mary’s Huskies. Kean has been a QSSF All-Star three times and a CIS All-Canadian in 2005.

Defensive back Jason Nedd was selected in the second round (10th overall). Last season, Nedd played in 12 games for Akron, starting the final seven games. He finished the 2006 season with 41 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He also had two 10-plus tackle games.

Michael Jean-Louis, a defensive lineman out of Laval, was picked in the fourth round (26th overall) by the Eskimos. He registered seven tackles and 2.5 sacks in eight games in 2006. He was named Laval’s Rookie of the Year in 2004, Best Defensive Player in 2005 and Best Lineman in 2006. He was teammates with current Eskimos Mathieu Bertrand and J.F. Romeo at Laval.

Selected in the fourth round (27th overall), Calvin McCarty is a running back out of Western Washington. He started the first seven games in 2006 before suffering a season-ending foot fracture. The Burnaby, B.C. native was a second-team North Central Conference all-star last season and was ranked fifth among NCC rushing leaders with 492 yards and five touchdowns on 130 carries. He also caught 30 passes for 278 yards.
