LONDON (CFL.ca wire) — The London Silverbacks of the North American Football League (NAFL) are currently seeking coaches to join them in the defence of their Northern Conference championship en route to the league championship game in Las Vegas.
The London Silverbacks are a men’s professional minor-league football team based in London, Ontario, with home games played at TD Waterhouse Stadium on the University of Western Ontario campus. The regular season runs from July through September with games on Saturday evenings.
In 2006, the team’s third year of competition, the Silverbacks set many records as the sole Canadian representative in the world’s largest football league including being the first Canadian team to win an NAFL playoff game as well as reaching the league semi-finals. A number of Silverbacks players have moved up to a professional level including Toby Atawo who was recently signed by the Toronto Argonauts.
The team plays American rules football in a division that consists primarily of Michigan based teams yet will travel to a variety of U.S states throughout playoffs which last year took the team to Ohio and Iowa before hosting a game against a team from Virginia. While the team is volunteer-based the Silverbacks do provide a variety of incentives and compensation while providing a great ground for coaches to gain valuable experience and help the continuing goal of proving Canadians can not only compete, but win, on the international gridiron.
