MONTREAL – Montreal Alouettes Anthony Calvillo and Luke Fritz, along with Barron Miles of the B.C. Lions are pleased to announce the third edition of the ELITE Football Camp in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Montreal. The camp kicks off Wednesday, Apr. 11 in St. Jean-sur-Richelieu and will feature professional instruction for a select group of Quebec high school football players.
“The ELITE Football Camp is a non-profit organization aimed at supporting football in Quebec high schools and we’ve been able to raise over $50,000 to support the close to 100 student-athletes that will attend our four-day camp,” said Calvillo, one of the top quarterbacks in CFL history. “Thanks to our great sponsors, we’re able to have these kids come for free to learn from professional players just how to play the game.”
Along with Calvillo, Miles and Fritz, other pro coaches include the likes of Alouettes Uzooma Okeke, Robert Edwards, Dave Stala, Dario Romero, Damon Duval, Paul Lambert and Étienne Boulay as well Javier Glatt of the Lions, Rob Brown of the Edmonton Eskimos and Jason Maas and Sam Young of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The camp will also feature some of Quebec’s top amateur coaches.
The participants, aged 14 to 17, have been chosen based on their athletic abilities, coupled by recommendations from their teachers and coaches. The camp sets out to teach these kids the kind of things that will help them reach ELITE status in all aspects of life.
The concept for the camp originated in the founding members’ passion for football. “We got where we are because someone took the time to do this with us when we were student athletes,” Fritz said. “Each of us had that one coach, mentor or parent that gave us the support we needed to succeed and our mission is simply to give that back.”
With the ongoing support of the CFLPA and many of its dedicated players, the ELITE Football Camp continues to provide a unique experience to both its volunteer coaches and student athletes.
