Rifles name new head coach

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Rifles Junior Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Paul Normandeau as their new head coach.

Normandeau comes to the Rifles with an extensive background in coaching and teaching in Manitoba. He has 33 years of coaching experience including stints at the bantam, high school and university levels. He also served five times as the head coach of Football Manitoba’s provincial team.

Normandeau is a certified Level 4 coach and a master course conductor for the National Coaches Certification Program. He has a Masters Degree from the University of Manitoba and is currently the International Baccalaureate Program Coordinator at Kelvin High School, where he was the head football coach for 14 years. Normandeau was awarded the NFL Canada High School Coach of the Year in 2001.

Normandeau replaces Mike Watson, who was the team’s head coach first coach and served in that capacity from 2002 until 2006. Watson, the CJFL Coach of the Year in 2005, resigned following the 2006 season with a 15-25 regular season record

Due to the holiday season, the Winnipeg Rifles will hold a press conference in early January to formally introduce Normandeau and to provide more information on the Rifles hosting the 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Bowl in 2007.
