QUFL Players of the Week

MONTREAL -– Jean-Philippe Shoiry of the Sherbrooke Very & Or, the McGill Redmen’s Jean-Nicolas Carriere and Jean Luc Lamarche of the Montreal Carabins have been named the Quebec University Players of the Week for the week ending October 29th.

Offence

Shoiry, a six-foot-four, 210-pound quarterback from Quebec City, was named the Offensive Player of the Week as he led the Vert & Or to a 29-15 upset win over the fourth-ranked Concordia Stingers. The first-year law major completed 16 of 26 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns.

Defence

Carriere, a six-foot, 222-pound linebacker from Ottawa, Ontario, was named the Defensive Player of the Week as he led the playoff-bound Redmen to their first shutout of the season, a 14-0 victory over the Bishop’s Gaiters. The third-year Arts major had seven total tackles including five solo and also recovered a Gaiter fumble.

Special Teams

Lamarche, a five-foot-eleven, 215-pound kicker from Laval, Quebec, was named the Special Teams Player of the Week as he led the Carabins to an 7-2 upset win over the Laval to spoil the Rouge et Or undefeated season. The fourth-year arts and sciences major kept Laval pinned deep in their own zone for most of the game as he averaged 52.3 yards on four punts and also scored the game-winning points as he kicked a field goal and two rouges.
