Over 80 percent of tickets sold for Vanier Cup

OTTAWA (CIS) -– Tickets for the 2006 PotashCorp Vanier Cup should soon become a rarity.

The host University of Saskatchewan is pleased to announce that over 8,000 of the available 10,000 tickets have already been sold for this fall’s Canadian Interuniversity Sport football championship game scheduled for Saturday, November 25 at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon.

The PotashCorp Vanier Cup organizing committee is well on its way to meeting its objective of selling out the event before the 2006 CIS football season gets under way in September.

“Individual sales of game-day tickets began on June 1, and 400 tickets were sold on that first day only,” says University of Saskatchewan athletic director, Ross Wilson. “The organizing committee is hard at work putting all the details into place for an outstanding four days of events.”

“The Saskatoon organizing committee is doing a wonderful job,” adds CIS marketing director Peter Metuzals. “Having our championships pre-sold is something we’re really working towards. This goes a long way in helping with the marketing of an event.”

“We have no doubt that the event will be a huge success.”

The Vanier Cup game will venture out of Ontario for the first time ever this fall. The CIS football final was played in Toronto from 1965-2003, and in Hamilton the past two seasons.

“The renovations at Griffiths Stadium are well under way and on schedule,” adds Wilson. “Preparations for the installation of artificial turf are going well. The roof is on the new clubhouse, the work on the expanded media boxes is under way, and the installation of the new east grandstand should begin shortly.”
