Marc Loranger named head coach of Team Quebec
LENNOXVILLE, QC (CIS) — Four members of the Bishop’s University football progamme have been invited as guest coaches at Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos and Toronto Argonauts’ training camps this spring.
Head coach Leroy Blugh, defensive coordinator Marc Loranger and offensive line coach Richard Parenteau are in Toronto with the Argos while offensive coordinator Tony Addona is attending the Eskimos camp.
“It is also very interesting to participate in these camps,” Addona said. “It is good to see what the pros are doing and see what we can bring back to our teams. It is the best way to see the game at a new level. Also I will be able to attend team meetings, learn their training methods as well as see the Eskimos’ football facilities.
Blugh stated that it was a testament to the Gaiter coaching staff that four members were selected to attend the camps.
“I am very proud that we have four coaches at pro camps this spring,” Blugh said prior to leaving for Toronto. “It is a testament to their expertise as well as their desire to improve as coaches.”
Marc Loranger named head coach of Équipe Québec
Defensive coordinator and recruitment coordinator Marc Loranger of the Bishop’s Gaiters has been named head coach of the Quebec under-20 team that will participate in the Canada Cup in Winnipeg July 8-16.
Loranger, who will begin his seventh season with the Gaiters this September, is enthusiastic about leading a team composed of the top under-20 football players in the province.
“It is a great challenge but I truly don’t know who will be in attendance,” Loranger said. “It is difficult to evaluate our chances because at this point we don’t know which players will be at the evaluation camp. Certainly there is a lot of potential and it is an honour to be selected as the head coach.”
Loranger is also aware that it will be a challenge to form a cohesive team in a short period of time.
“We have six coaches and we all believe that it will be team spirit and chemistry that will make us successful,” Loranger said.
Loranger’s staff will include Warren Craney, defensive coordinator with the Concordia Stingers, Marco Ladeluca and offensive coordinator with the St-Leonard Cougars. Joining this group will be Richard Parenteau, offensive line coach with the Gaiters, Ray Gagnon, Concordia’s linebacking coach, and Spiro Feradouros, defensive secondary coach with the University of Montreal Carabins.
The team’s first evaluation camp will be held June 2-4 at Concordia University. Players selected from that camp will then participate in a training camp at Bishop’s from July 2-7.
